My favorite scene (TP 1/26) was in Doc Haywards house...Donna was crying upstairs so the good Doc walked up, just like out of the Saturday Evening Post...shoulders bent w/ fatigue, his grown-up little girl full of sniffles and hormones... For some reason he had brought up Gray's Anatomy w/ him and was thumbing through it, in an absent minded way...I didn't catch all of the medulla mballa...mumble stuff...but Donna looked up at him so irritated and asked "Is this a rib?" and he closed the book and bit his tongue...letting the audience savor the unspoken punch line. -- Jeff Davis davis@keats.ca.uky.edu Where we are here, Gerrit said, is the backside of nowhere....[src]

From what the pilot said about "drugs in the name of confidentiality" I think the government's going to try to drug Briggs into silence. I'm surprised no one's mentioned the horse at the waterfall. It's obviously the white horse Sarah saw. And Coop *knows* there's something special about it, but I don't know how he's going to convince the town that they've got to rescue the horse off from that rock it's perched on. 1/26/91 episode -- the llama scene jespah@milton.u.washington.edu (Kathleen Hunt) 1991-01-28 13:15
A lot of people seem to have missed the 1/26/91 episode, so I thought it might be helpful if I transcribed that key scene near the end. It went as follows: ************************** Coop is standing in front of Sheriff's office, as the ambulance pulls away (with Dick's body inside). The ambulance goes farther and farther away. Everyone but Coop goes back into the building. Close-up of Coop, looking puzzled. The siren is not fading even though the ambulance is gone. The siren starts to slow and go lower and lower. Coop has clearly entered that strange Giant/dwarf time zone. Overhead shot of Sheriff's department, bathed in red light. Cooper is standing alone. Then, a ground-level shot. A llama (alpaca?) is walking toward Cooper. As it passes him, suddenly the OAM is there. The OAM says: You wonder about the threshold, beyond the fire. I tell you it is *NOT* there. There are many...in the woods...the old place, the *wild* *woods* with *wolves* [he emphasizes each word]. The house of Pan. Cooper: Where in the woods? OAM: In the wood there is a place. For a - long - time we have been there. It is a white house, in red trees. Only animals can travel there, only animals travel out. Birds can fly... Cooper: Has Major Briggs been there? OAM: Any who fly, any on four hooves, can come *if* they know the way. Oho, but those who choose to fly must be careful! [the OAM gives a choking laugh and looks up; there is a wailing sound; there is a sudden shower of small silver things, I couldn't see what they were -- all this just lasts a couple seconds] I know you want to come [approaches Coop, grabs him arm] but it is the core of the world! Be careful, or it may be your fatal vision. The transition is...difficult. When I came out, BOB... took over. I can no longer return. The OAM then looks down, and there on the ground between the OAM's and Cooper's feet is a word made of sticks: "EKOJ" Cooper looks at the llama and, unexpectedly, it turns its head (its body still facing away] and looks at him. Coop takes a step toward the llama, but the OAM is still holding his arm and he says: OAM: We need your help against the ravens. Then Coop looks at the llama -- it has changed into a horse! He looks back toward the OAM, but the OAM is gone. He hears hooves for a moment and looks back toward the horse, but it too is gone. The red light fades, a puff of wind blows by, and we hear somebody laughing. *********************** That's all. So what do you all think? Are Lynch/Frost leading into some sort of raven/owl/llama/horse war? I think Lynch is definitely leaning toward incorporating all those old myths and religions about animal gods into TP in some way. Maybe this place in the woods is where the old gods that are no longer worshipped go to retire, or something. I dunno. And what about that laughter? I think the key part of that whole scene, though, is the word made of sticks. Jespah[src]

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT 1/26 EPISODE zweig@cs.uiuc.edu (Johnny Zweig) 1991-01-28 13:58
According to reliable sources inside NBC: Despite the many claims to the contrary, there WAS INDEED an episode of Twin Peaks aired on January 26, 1991. The protracted discussion of its contents was all totally legitimate. The episode was preempted in many areas due to sagging interest on the part of the viewing public. There was an editorial mistake that caused the episode aired on January 19, 1991 to run the title "In two weeks...." this was caused by operator error and can be attributed to the War in the Gulf. The postings to alt.tv.twin-peaks saying things like "relax, this whole 1/26 episode thing is a hoax" are being posted by disgruntled individuals who are protesting about the limited areas that chose to broadcast the episode. The episode was run, Dick Tremain did perish, Andrew Packard was seen with syringes and vials of unknown substances (possibly drugs used for chemical interrogation, CIA-style, which relates to the top-secret Briggs goings-on), James was rescued from the Spider Woman, etc. -Johnny Official[src]

Dalai Lama to visit Cornell (was Re: TIBET: 1991 IS YEAR OF TIBET) doron@cs.cornell.edu (Leor Doron) 1991-01-28 18:41
I thought this might hold some (widespread) interest...
(Note: Also visiting Cornell, to lecture on Jan. 31, is Benazir Bhutto,
former prime minister of Pakistan.)
[Excerpted from Cornell Chronicle, Jan. 24, 1991]==========================
Dalai Lama to visit in March as Bartels Fellow
----------------------------------------------
The Dalai Lama, the exiled temporal and spiritual leader of 6
million Tibetans and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, will visit
campus March 25 through 27 as the 1991 Henry E. and Nancy Horton Bartels
World Affairs Fellow.
President Frank H.T. Rhodes, in announcing the visit, called the
Dalai Lama "a spiritual teacher, secular leader and scholar of
remarkable breadth, whose warmth, compassion, and commitment to the
highest humanitarian ideals stand as an example to us all.
"As the Nobel committee noted," Rhodes continued, "he has come
forward with constructive and forward-looking proposals for the solution
of problems as diverse as international conflict, human rights and
global environmental change. We look forward to his sharing his unique
perspective on life and world affairs with our students and the wider
community."
A highlight of the Dalai Lama's visit will be a free public talk
scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. in Barton Hall. Up to 15,000
people are expected; seating will be on a first-come, first-served
basis. Campus shuttle buses will run from perimeter parking lots to
Barton Hall.
The Bartels Fellowship honors a distinguished leader in the field
of international relations, who visits the campus as a guest of the
Center for International Studies to give a lecture and meet with
students and faculty. Recent Bartels Fellows have included President
Carlos Andres Perez of Venezuela; Mark Palmer, former U.S. Ambassador to
Hungary; and Dr. Halfdan Mahler, director-general of the World Health
Organization.
In addition to his major public address, the Dalai Lama will
deliver an academic lecture, "The Buddhism of Tibet," on Wednesday,
March 27, at 9:30 a.m. in Bailey Hall. It is designed for, but not
limited to, students of philosophy, Asian studies, and religious
studies.
During the Cornell visit, the Dalai Lama will also formally launch
the Year of Tibet in North America. Through events and exhibits to be
held in at least 28 countries, the Year of Tibet honors the
2,000-year-old civilization -- especially its religious art -- which has
been imperiled by a 40-year Chinese occupation of the country.
During the three weeks before the visit, the Herbert F. Johnson
Museum of Art will be the site for construction of an intricate Tibetan
sand mandala by monks of Namgyal Monastery. The Dalai Lama will be
stopping by the museum during his visit to inspect and bless the
mandala. Other Year of Tibet events include a Tibetan film series,
musical performances, a photo exhibit and other displays of Tibetan art
and culture.
Tenzin Gyatso was born in 1935 to a peasant family in Amdo, eastern
Tibet. He was chosen at age 2 to be the 14th Dalai Lama after an
intricate process led by eminent Buddhist lamas in Tibet. At the age of
4, he was taken to Lhasa and officially installed as the Dalai Lama.
In 1959, after a Tibetan revolt against China's occupation, the
Dalai Lama along with 100,000 Tibetan refugees fled across the Himalayas
to India and other neighboring countries. In India, he drafted a
democratic constitution, formed a Tibetan government-in-exile and began
to establish the institutions that would form the basis for a new
Tibetan society: schools, hospitals, orphanages, craft co-ops, farming
communities, institutions for the preservation of traditional music and
drama, and monastic institutions.
In addition to winning the Nobel Peace Prize, the Dalai Lama was
recently honored by the United States Congress as the recipient of its
1989 Raoul Wallenberg Congressional Human Rights Award. Other recent
honors include the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Award and the 1989
Prix de Memoire Award.
His publications include: "A Policy of Kindness," "My Tibet,"
"Freedom in Exile," "Kindness, Clarity and Insight," along with writings
on Buddhist philosophy.
Those interested in more information about the Dalai Lama's visit

Can anyone out there help me? So, does anyone have any kind of brief summary of the first season's events - particularly in terms of major characters and important happenings? saturated vs. subdued color pane@cat.cmu.edu (John Pane) 1991-01-29 05:48
The vivid saturated colors in the opening scene of the 1/19 episode reminded me of the opening and closing scenes of Blue Velvet. In Blue Velvet, those scenes presented a overly-romanticized, naive view of life (white picket fence, robins, green grass). Then a shocking tragedy with a garden hose followed by the switch to subdued color and lighting for the "real" story. Again back to exaggerated color for the "happy" ending with the characters' expectations that all evil is gone and now everything will be wonderful. The urge to see all of the bad guys eliminated has been satisfied, but somehow the audience is left a little more unsettled than the characters are. It is interesting that the Major's chair-in-the-woods scene is shot using this same technicolor device. The concensus (which I agree with) is that the Major is more enlightened than most, if not all, of the other characters in the story. Is the point being highlighted by saturated color in Twin Peaks something other than a naive view of life? Should we beware of placing too much hope in the Major and his White Lodge? Will Twin Peaks end in a sickeningly happy resolution that leaves the audience satisfied on one superficial level (bad forces apparently eliminated), but disturbed on another (the knowledge that things are not as good as they seem)? Where there any other scenes in Twin Peaks that were shot in this colorful film? -- John Pane pane+@cs.cmu.edu School of Computer Science Carnegie Mellon University (412) 268-3650[src]

TP: Frequently Answered Questions swsh@ellis.uchicago.edu (Janet M. Swisher) 1991-01-29 09:52
TWIN PEAKS
FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
Last revision: 1/29/91
(Many of these concern what various people said. Many thanks to Bart
J. Geraci, the man with the closed caption decoder.)
WARNING: This article may contain references to any episode up to and
including the most recent one shown in the U.S.
New or changed lines begin with #.
Meta-question #0: Why should we accept the closed captions as authoritative?
Don't the people who enter the captions just type what *they* hear?
--The closed captions for most pre-recorded network shows that have them are
created from scripts. Despite all the script-secrecy surrounding
Twin Peaks, it is reasonable to assume that TP's captions are
created the same way.
1. What's this "secret diary" that everybody keeps referring to?
--_The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer_ was written by Jennifer Lynch (David's
daughter), and is published in the U.S by Pocket Books, and in the
U.K. by Penguin Books. It's supposed to be the text of the diary
that was discovered in the *second* season of the show.
2. a) What language was the little boy with the creamed corn speaking?
-- French
b) What did he say?
-- J'ai une ame solitaire: I have a solitary soul (according to the closed
captions).
c) Didn't he look an awful lot like David Lynch?
-- Yes, that's because he's Austin Jack Lynch, David Lynch's son. (For
handy reference, look at Gordon Cole (Cooper's boss): he's played by
David Lynch.)
3. What was that ditty Leland was singing, and what does it mean?
-- The full lyrics of the song are:
Mairzy doats and dozy doats
and little lambzy divy.
A kiddly divy, too, wooden shoe?
Now if the words sounds queer,
and funny to your ear,
a little bit jumbled and jivy,
Sing:
Mares eat oats and does eats oats
and little lambs eat ivy.
A kid'll eat ivy, too, wouldn't you?
4. Wasn't the Giant also on Star Trek: The Next Generation?
-- Yes, he is Carel Struycken, who played Mr. Homm. No, he did not play
Lurch on the Adams Family (although it has been reported that he
will play Lurch in an upcoming AF movie).
5. Who was standing outside the window while Josie was seducing Harry?
-- The majority of posters believe it was the Mysterious Asian Gentleman,
also known as "Jonathan", Josie's "cousin" from Hong Kong. Those
who have suggested other people are pushing it.
6. What were the three predictions that the giant made to Cooper?
-- a man in a smiling bag
the owls are not what they seem
without chemicals, he points
The giant also said something about "Leo locked in a hungry horse," and
that there was a clue at Leo's house. However, these were not the
"predictions" which were to be fulfilled before Cooper gets his ring
back. The former refers to the fact that Leo was in jail in Hungry
Horse, Montana when Theresa Banks was killed, and the latter refers
to the Circle Brand boots that were found with the cocaine at Leo's
house.
7. Has anybody mentioned the possible connection between:
* BOB and J. R. "Bob" Dobbs of the Church of the Subgenius?
* All the donuts they eat on Twin Peaks, and JFK's "Ich bin ein Berliner"
speech? What he literally said was "I am a jelly donut."
* Agent Dale Cooper and D.B. Cooper, the guy who hijacked a plane and
then parachuted over Washington State with a whole bunch of money
and was never found?
* Ben and Jerry Horne and Ben and Jerry's brand ice cream (in one scene
the brothers Horne are even shown eating ice cream)?
* Sarah's vision of a white horse, and Mr. Ed?
* " " " " " " " Laura' pony, Troy?
* " " " " " " " Death, which "rides a pale horse"?
* " " " " " " " heroin, also known as "white horse"
(maybe Leland/BOB shot her up with
heroin)?
-- Yes for all of the above.
8. What was the poem that "Mike" recited in Cooper's dream, and later at the
sheriff's station?
-- "Through the darkness of future past
the magician longs to see
one chants out between two worlds
'Fire walk with me.'"
(There has been much debate over whether the second-to-last line is "one
chants out" or "one chance out". The closed captions indicate
"chants".)
9. How were the funny voices in Cooper's dream done?
-- Before shooting the scene, the actors were recorded reading their lines.
The recording was then played to them backwards, and they memorized
how to imitate it. Each shot in the scene was acted in reverse
order, with the actors saying their "backwards" lines. The film was
then reversed so that the actions came out in the right order, and
the words came out double-reversed. Unfortunately, the words
weren't very intelligible, so subtitles were added.
10. What year is the show set in?
-- References in the first season placed it in 1989. However, _The Secret
Diary of Laura Palmer_ places the action in 1990. Sources on the
production team (i.e., Scott Frost) indicate that it's been sort of
miraculously moved up to 1990. Apparently, the producers and
directors have trouble keeping track of what day it's supposed to be
in Twin Peaks, never mind what year.
11. Maddy notices a burning smell just before she's attacked by Leland/BOB.
Didn't Jacoby say he smelled burned oil in the hospital when Jacques
was killed? Does this mean that Leland was BOB when he killed
Jacques?
-- No. Later, under hypnosis, Jacoby corrected himself and said that he
smelled the burned smell just before he was attacked at the gazebo,
but not at the hospital. However, this does leave open the
possibility that Jacoby was attacked by BOB.
12. a) Where is Twin Peaks supposed to be?
-- It's in the State of Washington, but where exactly is not clear. In
Cooper's initial monolog to Diane as he's driving into town, he
states that it's five miles south of the Canadian border and twelve
miles west of the state line. That would seem to place it in the
northeast corner of the state. However the surrounding geography is
like that of the Cascade Mountains in western WA. References to
cities such as Seattle and Tacoma, but not Spokane, also seem to
place it in western WA. The show's creators seem to have smooshed
the state so that it all fits west of the Cascades.
# Many of the outdoor shots were filmed in Snoqualmie, WA, which is in the
Cascades, not too far from Seattle. The waterfall is there; the
#Great Northern Hotel is really the Salish Lodge (although it doesn't
#look like the GNH on the inside); and the RR Diner is really the
Mar-T Diner, which really does have heavenly cherry pies.
b) How big a town is Twin Peaks?
-- Again, that's not exactly clear. The population sign that's shown at
station breaks and on the Twin Peaks sound track indicates 51,201.
However cues in the show seem to indicate that it's much much
smaller than that. For instance, it doesn't have a resident circuit
court judge, which any town of 51K+ in the U.S. would; it has a
sheriff's department but no police department. On the other hand,
it does have its own hospital, a fancy department store, and a large
hotel. It seems the creators haven't worried too much about being
consistent on this point.
13. Has anybody noticed that Julee Cruise's "Floating Into The Night" album
gives special thanks to, among other people, Bob (no last name)?
-- Yes.
14. Is the first season two-hour pilot considered the first episode, or is
the first one-hour show the first episode? Do the episodes have
names? What the best way of referring to episodes?
-- The episodes are not named. Whether it's the best way or not,
Lynch/Frost number the episodes with four-digit numbers, where the
first digit is the season number, and the others are the order
within that season. This system was apparently adopted after the
pilot was produced, so the pilot is 1000, the first one-hour episode
is 1001, and so on. However for the second season, the two-hour
season premiere is 2001.
15. Can a person's hair really turn white "over night" like Leland's did
between the first and second seasons?
--Generally, only folklore supports this ("it happened to a friend of a
friend of mine"). Since hair above the scalp is dead matter, it
can't change color without dyes or bleaches. It's possible that a
person with mixed gray and dark hair could lose all their older,
darker hair over a short period of time (a few days or weeks) due to
a physical or psychological trauma, which would leave them with just
gray hair. Or a dark-haired person might lose all their dark hairs
and grow in gray ones over a similar span of time, but "over night"
seems physically implausible.
#16. Is Miguel Ferrer (the actor who plays Albert Rosenfeld) related to Jose
#Ferrer, the movie actor?
#--Yes, Miguel is Jose's son.
#17. Was there or wasn't there an episode of Twin Peaks broadcast in the US
#on 1/26/91?
#--If you have to ask, please see a doctor or a professional comedian
#for treatment of humor impairment.

If you read the critics' reviews of the show, especially those written after the first season, you might want to conclude otherwise. I thought the Monica Collins report and the various articles about TP in TV Guide lately have been the ultimate in hypocritical critique. First of all, it is clear from the content that these people never understood the point of TP (I'm not sure I do, but I know it wasn't "who killed Laura Palmer?"). Secondly, while they lauded TP for its originality at the beginning, once it was clear that "WKLP" was not the point of the show, these impatient pat-solution-addicted folks turned sour on TP and lambasted it for being slow and too complex (which is largely what they originally lauded it for: original and intriguing). Third, if these guys had any real talent, they'd be creating shows instead of stupid (and vicious) reviews of them. And last (maybe), if they had any brains, they'd still be fans. Most people who watch TV are pretty brain-dead anyway, and that covers a fair segment of American society as a whole. Why else would anyone sit staring at a slew of mindless sitcoms when quality TV can be had every Saturday night at 10PM (EST & PST) on ABC (and a very few other times)? And why else would TP be sliding into 76th place in the ratings race? Middle America doesn't watch quality TV, and that stands for about 75% of the population (guesstimate, but the Neilsens are based on them, so they're _supposed_ to represent us all). > > -- > > bvickers@ics.uci.edu|"One who would guide a leader of men in the uses of life > > brett@ucippro.bitnet| Will warn him against the use of arms for conquest. > > | Even the finest arms are an instrument of evil: > > | An army's harvest is a waste of thorns." - _Tao Te Ching_ An EXCELLENT quote - I like it! Re: AGH! 26 Jan episode joe@athena.mit.edu (Joseph C Wang) 1991-01-29 15:56
The 1/26 episode of Twin Peaks wasn't seen in the Boston area, but fortunately I have a friend with a VCR in a place where it shown. It would be interesting to track where it was and wasn't shown. Anyway.... (DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN 1/26). MAJOR SPOILERS..... In talking with people who have seen 1/26, my impression is that either one will think that it's the best Twin Peaks ever, or the worst Twin Peaks. No one I've talked to has had lukewarm reactions. I think that a lot of the compliants the 1/26 wasn't "Twin Peaks" enough are misplaced. I see 1/26 as Lynch trying to parody comedy in much the same way he tries to parody soap operas in the rest of the show. The pie fight scene was one of the best scenes to have appeared on Twin Peaks thus far. It seems that Lynch is not only a dramatic director of first rate (Maddy's death), but that he is also an excellent comedic director. Indeed, the rather poignant ending to that scene could almost be described as "tragic" relief, bringing the reader back down to reality and showing how low Ben has sunk. (Did anyone notice the workman during the scene? Was he fixing "sprinklers" perhaps?) I feel very sorry for people who missed the episode, because I doubt they'll be able to piece together what happened this week from next week's episode. I'm almost convinced that Lynch knew in advance that half of "Twin Peaks" viewers would miss this episode, and decided to use this as an opportunity to take some very bold risks and to experiment with the comedic side to the characters. At the same time, the plot in this episode reminds me a lot of "Candide" in that the ending leaves off roughly where the beginning was. As a result, viewers who miss 1/26, might not even notice when they see the next episode, and as a result they will be deprieved of some wonderful insights into our favorite cast of characters along with some belly laughs. Anyway, try to get a copy of 1/26, you'll either love it or hate it. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joseph Wang (joe@athena.mit.edu) Wake Up! Dune - it's _happening_ again. bam@rudedog.asd.sgi.com (Brian McClendon) 1991-01-29 23:50
Forgive me if this has been talked to death, but ch2 in SF showed the first half of the syndicated Dune tonight. It was the first time I had watched it since starting to watch TP. I had (of course) never noticed that David Lynch had a miner role in the movie. Pretty sneaky, all that \spice\ covering his face. I remember the radio/spoken part, but was the rest of his scene in the original, or did the infamous 1/26 director, Alan Smithee, slip it in to spite him? -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brian McClendon bam@rudedog.SGI.COM ...!uunet!sgi!rudedog!bam 415-335-1110 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------[src]

1/26 Episode: A Hoax mr@ogre.cica.indiana.edu (Michael Regoli) 1991-01-30 09:46
][ If it's a hoax, then won't this be revealed at the beginning of the 2/2 show? I seem to recall "catch-up" bits from the previous show at the start of each episode. And, can we really believe there are 6+ plot derivations? The production expense of 6+ episodes for every one shown has to be incredible. For me, I'll be looking at the 2/2 episode in relation to Leo Johnson. He was shown interacting with Shelly at the end of 1/19. If 2/2 picks up where 1/19 left off, either my network affiliate is time shifting (and I'll be forever a week behind, or there never was a 1/26. I hope we can get a discussion started. Like why did he keep grabbing his wedding ring finger? Was he grasping at the ring for comfort? Was he unconsciously trying to tear it off?! Remember the one-armed man's reference to a ring of gold? Significant? Maybe. Maybe not. My first reaction to his statement "Is this for my soul" was to see the major as a man who was realizing, for the first time, that Shamballa/The White Lodge could be a spiritual rather than a physical reality and that the conflict of the lodges could be for souls. But I'm not comfortable with that interpretation because although the major works in the very practical world of the army, and uses scientific tools to monitor heaven, he seems to also be quite spiritual/ religious. The answer is: Andrew Packard. > >(I think I am actually the first to correctly answer it. Wow!) Personally, I think this is one of those questions that will never be definitively answered in the show. I don't think it is a thread that will be picked up later on. I think Lynch/Frost intended for us to "get it" the first time, though I guess they screwed up and didn't make it clear enough. I think that it was Jonathan because he later knew that Josie cared about Harry, and would react to a threat against Harry. (I don't think Jonathan could just pick this up the way Cooper did.) Thus, Jonathan had a reason for spying on Josie, whereas Pete and Leo (other candidates for the "man at the window") didn't. Andrew might have a reason for spying on Josie, but he also could probably find out whatever he wanted to know about Josie from Catherine (unless he doesn't trust Catherine either ... hmmm). BTW, I think Andrew has been mentioned as a candidate before, though I don't have the article references. I think that line of speculation started as soon as Andrew appeared. Sorry. One upshot of this is that even though some questions are frequently asked and frequently answered, they may not be answered definitively. My FAQ list reflects my interpretation. Maybe I should include all major alternative answers, so we don't start these debates over again everytime I post the list. -- Janet SwisherInternet: swsh@midway.uchicago.edu University of ChicagoPhone: (312) 702-7608 Academic and Public ComputingP-mail: 1155 E. 60th St. Chicago IL 60637, USA[src]

OK, there's been some debate about whether the ungulate in 1/26 was a llama, an alpaca or what, so I did a little research. I looked up some pictures of all of the various candidate species and ran them through a digitzer. I'll put them up here, and you can download one of the frames from that scene from uunet and compare for yourself. Unfortunately the pictures came out a little small, though, so it's best to view them on a display with at least 2048 pixels per inch (4096 is better), or else a lot of the detail is going to be lost. OK: LLAMA: ~m VICUNA: ~m ALPACA: ~m and just for comparison, here's a CAMEL: ~m I think you'll all agree these show pretty conclusively that the animal is a llama. Either that or a brontosaurus, but market research says dinosaurs are pretty much for the kidvid market only. -- Rod Johnson * rjohnson@vela.acs.oakland.edu * (313) 650 2315 "The sun is one foot wide" --Heraclitus[src]

I used to think that you guys were fun, but evidently a few of you decided
to hatch a plot to make all of us that did not watch TV that night really
pissed off that we did. Those of you(and you know who you are) forgot to
take into account the fact that you are dealing with an obsessed group
of people here. These are people, much like myself, that get extremely
upset when we see notices at the end of the show that say "in two weeks"
because some people have taken a joke a little too far, many people,
I am sure, have become irritated and will probably never read this line
again (notice the distinct lack of postings in the last few days? I used
to read 50-80 in a day, the last 3 days-NONE!!!) If this line dies because
a few people went too far with a practical joke, it will be a shame. I
enjoy reading alt.tv.twin-peaks because of the insight on shows that
actually exist, and not for practical jokes. I hope that this post
straightens things out, and I will wait to hear about the 2/2 episode, that
is, if it really exists. I am sure that I am going to get a lot of hate
mail from this, but I think that a practical joke, no matter how good,
can only be taken so far, and this is beyond limits. Anyone who agrees with
me can also mail. I'll sure be able to use the support. Thanks for letting
me get this out of the way.

I'm hoping that the end of the Jean Renault plotline means a cessation of TP's relentless portrayal of Canadians as evil, crooked, or both. (I bet the RCMP is pissed about that bad Mountie, especially because of his comic-opera ceremonial-uniform initial appearance.) Anyway, the tide may have turned, if we can read anything into Lynch's (or Badalamenti's) choice of Vancouver's "Doug and the Slugs" as Julee Cruise's (onscreen) back-up band in the 1-26 episode. Okay, okay. Ha ha. I sincerely apologize for pooping on everyone's party, but it's time to tell people that this whole 1/26 thing is a big ruse. I'm not trying to be haughty or self-righteous about his sort of thing; it's just that there are *A LOT* of people out there who are really into Twin Peaks, and it's a big deal to them if they've missed an episode. It's time to stop freaking them out. I, for one, initially panicked when I thought that I had missed an episode of my favorite show. So, I'm going out on a limb--flame away if you like--and saying that this whole business about a 1/26 episode is a big EKOJ! (ie. Joke -- someone posted a summary of the final scene of the supposed 1/26 episode, saying that the word "EKOJ" was written in sticks--clever). Anyway, anyone out there who is truly disappointed about missing a 1/26 episode, take heart. Nothing was missed. To those who participated in the hoax--kudos for your cleverness. Ever thought of submitting a script to Lynch/Frost (some of that stuff was pretty good). -Fred Cheng[src]

Widow - Bob's host evans@jazz.concert.net (Larry Evans) 1991-01-31 06:18
I would like to see the widow as Bob's host, Bob is using her temporary until he can find a new host. Maybe Bob was was in her and try to enter her husband before he died. Maybe the husband had heart attack when he saw his wife's true colors, (BOB), and the shock caused his death. So, all the men attracted to the widow are actually being baited to become Bob's new host. Larry P.S. sorry I've forgotten the widow's character name.[src]

Well, here it is. "Coop. I may be wearing a dress, but I still put my panties on one leg at a time. Know what I mean." "Not really." Hopefully this file will work for you (although I can't for the life of me remember whether or not those line feeds are supposed to be like that). If a lot of people have trouble with this I'll repost it at a later date. On another note. I'll be reposting the first six archives (the last two of which no one has heard yet [but which do include the entire "Sheriff Truman, I love you" speech and more] as well as the new sounds I've recorded since then, like "She killed him with SEX!"). Look for an announcement here just as soon as I find a site that will accept more than one archive at a time. bwdavies. First of all, the above posting is all part of a hoax intended to get us to believe that the 1/26 episode never happened. Well all of us who saw the show know the truth. Unfortunately, I seemed to have recorded over my tape and now I'm in need of a copy of the 1/26 episode! I would be willing to trade for a copy of my newly released Japanese laserdisc version of the Twin Peaks pilot, you know the one discussed here a week ago - the 5 hour version that contains scenes never before seen in either the US or European versions? You may remember that we discussed the much longer dream/dwarf sequence and the early appearance of the giant just before the scene with Mike and Bobby in jail, etc. This is desperate! -- John Howells howells@earth.arc.nasa.gov howells@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov[src]

Re: 1/26 Episode: NO SUCH THING! ceblair@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Charles Blair) 1991-01-31 08:35
Lynch/Frost have painted themselves into so many corners in 1/26 (plus there are arguments with all the people who put in cameo appearances: Cybille Shephard, Bruce Willis, John Cleese, Prunella Scales, the Bunny) over what share of the residuals they're entitled to that they have decided to retroactively cancel the episode by launching a disinformation campaign that it never happened. Fortunately, limited edition videos of this hard-to-find episode are availa- ble. Send a shoebox with $100 in unmarked bills to: ZZ[src]

I do not agree that Leo had BOB in him when we saw him awake with
cake on his face...if the gifted and the damned see BOB with his real
face, wouldn't Shelley qualify as DAMNED? (I would certainly agree).
If this is the case, why wouldn't we have seen Leo with BOB superimposed?

Sort of an interesting Gothic viewpoint placed on a house we've seen more normally in previous episodes. On another note, I thought that it was Mrs. Tremond in that Weird Sisters scene, not Mrs. Hayward; but I have a small tv and the smoky atmosphere of the scene sort of confused things. That's because it wasn't Nepalese, it was Tibetan. Not even in the
same language *family*. Are you sure your friend wasn't pulling your

(The Tibetan was just a bunch of Lamaistic mumbo-jumbo about some
